---- — GLEN ARBOR — Leona “Lee” (Judge) Johnson, 86, of Glen Arbor, went to be with her Lord Tuesday, June 25, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. Lee was born July 29, 1926, in New Orleans, La., to Frederick H. and Olivia Judge.
On May 19, 1945, she married Arvis Andrew (Andy) Johnson, who preceded her in death in 2008. Lee and Andy moved to Glen Arbor in 2004 to live with family after spending earlier retirement years in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Lee had a very outgoing personality and a wonderful sense of humor. She often “adopted” people around her, treating them as family; she was particularly fond of her caregivers at Munson Hospice House during the last two years of her life.
Lee was also very community minded, having served as scout leader, room mother, Sunday school teacher and deacon of her church. For many years she was president of the Palmetto Club, a federated women’s club in Daytona Beach.
She was a masterful bridge player, enjoying the competition, and a gracious hostess. She often treated friends to her favorite Creole recipes and told stories of her happy childhood during the 1930s in New Orleans.
Most importantly Lee was a wonderful woman, both strong and feisty. She took great joy in all her friendships and loved to shop for gifts for the people in her life. She was a fine storyteller and often would share memories of her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished.
In addition to her parents and husband, her brothers, Frank and Fred, and her sister, Lucille, preceded Lee in death.
Lee is survived by her three children, Pete Johnson, of Reno, Nev., Olivia (Andy) DuPont, of Glen Arbor, and Todd Johnson, of Jackson, Ga.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey (Susan) DuPont, Paul DuPont and Kyle (Sheridan) DuPont; and a great-granddaughter, Abigail Elizabeth.
The family plans a private memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Munson Hospice House, 1105 Sixth Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.
Please share thoughts and memories with the Johnson family on their online guestbook at www.record-eagle.com/obituaries/.
Arrangements are with the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.
