FRANKFORT — Doris Mae Erickson, age 90, passed away on Oct. 26, 2012, at Paul Oliver Long Term Care in Frankfort. She was born on May 5, 1922, to Howard and Hazel (Fauble) Nugent in Bear Lake.
She graduated from Benzie Central High School in 1939 and received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Western Michigan University in 1958.
Doris married Robert G. Erickson in 1946 and in 1959 moved to Kalamazoo, where they raised their family.
Doris’ career as an elementary school teacher spanned 42 years.
Following her retirement in 1983 she and her husband enjoyed traveling, playing golf and ballroom dancing. They divided their time between Michigan and Florida. Doris enjoyed reading, crafts and painting. She was devoted to her family.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years and a son, Eric.
She is survived by daughters, Linda (John) Lehtinen, of Marquette, and Lila (Gilbert) Collver, of Galesburg; son, Howard (Judy) Erickson, of Climax; two sisters, Fern (Chile) Childs, of Traverse City, and Waive (Gordon) Sauer, of Benzonia; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Ever the caring and cheerful optimist, Doris is greatly missed by her family and friends. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 11 a.m., at the Blaine Christian Church in Arcadia.
