COPEMISH — Virginia Marie Wells, 88, of Copemish, died Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City. She was born Sept. 8, 1924, in Manistee, the daughter of Stephen and Josephine (Florkowski) Rafalski.
Virginia was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Copemish, where she had been active in the Altar Society.
Known to many as “The Flower Lady,” Virginia loved flowers, especially hollyhocks. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Virginia is survived by seven children, Suzanne Wade, of Mesa, Ariz., Betty Ann (Robert) Manlove, of Laughlin, Nev., Robert (Cindy) Wells, of Grand Rapids, Richard (Malissa) Wells, of Sears, Thomas (Lori) Wells, of Traverse City, Mary Ann (Dave Jr.) Briggs, of Traverse City, and Janet Harris, of Mesick; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her brother, Anthony (Rose) Rafalski, of Lafayette, Colo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
On April 27, 1946, in Manistee, Virginia married William H. Wells, who preceded her in death in 1994. She was also preceded in death by her son, William V. Wells in 1971; her sister, Celia Gutowski; her brothers, Edwin Rafalski and Harry Rafalski; and her infant brother, William Rafalski.
A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013, at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Copemish, with Father Ruben Munoz serving as celebrant. Interment will be in Cleon Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of Mass at the church.
