TRAVERSE CITY — Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Jean Doyle Gregg, a resident of Traverse City, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home.
Jean passed away in her 90th year on Friday, April 19, 2013, at Willow Cottage, Grand Traverse Pavilions, Traverse City. She was born Aug. 24, 1923, in Sault Ste. Marie, the daughter of Vincent and Margaret Downs Doyle. On Oct. 11, 1946, she married Ernest “Jim” Gregg who preceded her in death in October 2000. They were married for 54 years.
Prior to moving to Traverse City, Jean was retired from the War Memorial Hospital and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Kathryn Gregg of Alexandria, Va., Janis (Michael) Duwe of Glen Arbor, and Shawn (JoAnn) Gregg of Traverse City. In her Irish way, she would say, “You’ll never get anything done sitting around the kitchen table talking about it.” Her children loved her for that.
Jean is also survived by nine grandchildren, TJ Gregg, John Gregg, Samuel Duwe, Shawnney Le, John Duwe, James Gregg, Lauren Gregg, Alexander Duwe and Connor Gregg; and four great-grandchildren, Trevor Gregg, Jaidyn Gregg, Aidan and Elizabeth Le.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas James, a daughter, Margaret Mary, and her six brothers and sisters.
