---- — BEAR LAKE — Ralph Frederick “Fred” Gibbons, age 82, of Bear Lake, died Friday, April 19, 2013, in Howell. He was born June 21, 1930, in Highland Park, to Ralph and Edna (Jones) Gibbons.
Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a truck driver.
He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church in Copemish, the Teamsters and Sportsman’s Club and was a volunteer fireman in Copemish.
Surviving are his sister, Joanne Krekel; sister-in-law, Beatrice Robertson; and many nieces and nephews, 14 of whom he essentially adopted when his two brothers died.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald in 1967 and Kenneth in 1966.
A Mass of the Resurrection will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, with Fr. Louis Ekka officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 22, at the Niblack Funeral Home, Fowlerville, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in Van Keuren Cemetery, Oceola Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Raphael Catholic Church in Copemish.
