Traverse City Record-Eagle

---- — SOLON TOWNSHIP — Patrick Daniel Fitzpatrick, 88, of Solon Township, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at Munson Medical Center with his loving family at his side.

Patrick was born Aug. 27, 1924, in Detroit, the son of James and Margaret (Leahy) Fitzpatrick. On Aug. 10, 1946, in Detroit, he married his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Jane (Mohr) Fitzpatrick, who preceded him in death on Aug. 16, 2001.

Today we say goodbye to a great man.

He served his nation as a Navy Chief Hospital Corpsman over 20 years through World War II on the USS Massachusetts and tended wounded Marines in Korea.

He raised nine beautiful children.

After retiring from the Navy in 1963 he moved to Cedar in 1964.

He worked at Munson Hospital before moving on to the State Hospital, from where he retired in 1981. He was then employed at Holy Rosary Parish, where he was janitor, gardener, keeper of the mausoleum and custodial manager of the school.

Grandpa Pat loved his over 20 grandchildren with each knowing they were his favorite. We are his “little sh*ts,” and we loved him dearly.

He was a model father, husband, and devoted to his faith. God bless you and keep you. Thank you for your love, example, your humor, your crazy stories and the time you shared with us. Goodbye Dad, Grandpa (Papa) and Great-Grandfather.

Patrick is survived by his nine children, Mary Lou (Ted) Fleis, of Grand Rapids, Daniel (Janet) Fitzpatrick, of Lynn Haven, Fla., Victoria Damer, of Apache Junction, Ariz., Barbara Fitzpatrick, of Fremont, Margaret Cook, of Traverse City, Kathleen (Al) Erhardt, of Lake Leelanau, Michael (Traci) Fitzpatrick, of Leroy, Theresa Kuhlman, of Traverse City, and Elizabeth (Steven) Lyon, of Traverse City; three nieces; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; his siblings, Mary, James, Thomas, Fr. Emmett and Margaret; a son-in-law, Terry Cook; a grandson, Jason Cook; and a great-granddaughter, Cassandra Thurow.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. with the rosary to be prayed at 5 p.m., on Monday, April 22, at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.
