Ingeborg 'Inge' Kraimer

Traverse City Record-Eagle

---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Ingeborg “Inge” Kraimer passed away April 15, 2013, to be with her Lord and beloved family and friends who passed before her.

Born in Marburg, Germany, on Feb. 20, 1945, she and her father immigrated to the United States on March 7, 1955. The Statue of Liberty greeted them to what would become her home country of 58 years.

Living in the Detroit area, Inge graduated from Birmingham Seaholm High School in 1963.

She married Walter J. Kraimer Sept. 24, 1966, and began their family in Royal Oak, where they lived for 37 years. After spending many summer vacations on Long Lake in Traverse City, they moved to the region full time in 2004. The couple split time between their Elmwood Township home and the family cottage on Long Lake.

With a humble beginning and possessions limited to a trunk, Inge never forgot where she came from or the generosity and treatment she received from others while growing up. This experience in part provided the road map she followed throughout her life, treating others fairly and with compassion. In her final months friends and family repaid her in kind, and she was humbled by their generosity. Not only will she be missed, but she will be remembered by so many.

Her most satisfying jobs included being a full-time hospice volunteer in Royal Oak and later part-time in Traverse City, as well as working for Haven, a women’s domestic violence organization. It is fitting that after years of providing dignity to others through hospice, this is how she herself left us - with dignity and grace.

The family would like to thank all the friends, neighbors and extended family for the countless cards, prayers, visits, meals, phone calls, thoughts and other acts of generosity these past six months. Your support and love moved not only her, but all of us. Special thanks goes to Munson Hospice.

Inge was preceded in death by her mother and father, Margarete (Pfeiffer) and Hans Henseler; and stepmother, Sissi (Moehn) Henseler.

She leaves behind her husband of 46 years, Walter Kraimer; her children, Kima (Kimberly) Kraimer, of Traverse City, Eric (Rebecca) Kraimer, of Thorndale, Texas, and Ted Kraimer, of Traverse City; and her sister, Gisela Hinz, of Marburg, Germany.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m., with a scripture reading at 5 p.m., Sunday, April 21, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. The Rev. Leonard Paul of St. Michael’s of Suttons Bay will be presiding.

Those wishing to make donations in her honor may support the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy’s Long Lake Timbers Project, 3860 N. Long Lake, Traverse City, MI 49684; or the Traverse Health Clinic, 3147 Logan Valley Road, Traverse City, MI 49686.
