BEAR LAKE — Jamie L. Harju, 66, of Bear Lake, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born Aug. 30, 1946, in Frankfort, the daughter of Wesley and Eleanore Madsen.
Jamie was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaleva. She was also a member of the Bear Creek Watershed, had served as a trustee of Maple Grove Township for many years as well as volunteering for many hours at the Kaleva Elementary School.
In her spare time Jamie enjoyed tending to her garden. She was also known for being an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
On May 1, 1965, in Kaleva, Jamie married David Franklin Harju, who preceded her in death in 2005.
Jamie is survived by her son, Matthew (Sarah) Harju, of Boyne City; her granddaughter, Emma Harju; her brother, Russ (Kelly) Madsen, of Traverse City; her sister, Debbie Madsen, of Grand Rapids; her brother-in-law, Clarence (Carol) Harju, of Kaleva; her sister-in-law, Sylvia Harju, of Kaleva; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaleva, with Pastor Carla Rush officiating. Interment will follow in the Maple Grove Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva.
