---- — ELMIRA — Donald Franckowiak, 84, of Elmira, passed away Friday, July 12, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Elmira on July 28, 1928, to Michael and Regina (Karmel) Francis. On Aug. 23, 1952, in Cedar, he married Rose A. Panek.
He was a member of St. Thomas Church and the Gaylord Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was also a retired charter member of the Elmira-Warner Fire Department and a retired member of the UAW Local 388.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed farming, hunting mushrooms, hunting, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
After 39 years he retired from Standard Products in 1992.
Don is survived by sons, Donny (Diane), Jim (Debbie) and Alan (Janice), all of Elmira; daughters, Kathy (Terry) Franckowiak, Cindy (Ed) Franckowiak and Laura (Rick) Manuszak, all of Gaylord; grandchildren, Nathan (Kayla) Manuszak, Tanya (Scott) Musall, Adam (Nicole) Manuszak, Noni Parker, Lloyd Sparks and Courtney (Jason) Sparks; great-grandchildren, Aiden Musall, Gabriella Manuszak and Ava Sparks; and sister, Roberta Waszelewski, of Hazel Park. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Ace (Shep).
Don was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rose; brothers, Edward, Bennie, Robert and Gerald; and sister, Martha Winowiecki.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 17, at 11 a.m., from St. Thomas Church in Elmira. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Visitation from Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday, July 16, from 3 to 8 p.m., and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of Mass. An Eagles service will be held Tuesday at the funeral home beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by a rosary recitation at 7 p.m.
