---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Arlene Frances Banton, 87, of Traverse City, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at her home at Country Pleasures Assisted Living. Arlene was born in Traverse City on Dec. 8, 1925, the daughter of George and Emma (Youker) Sladek.

She graduated from Traverse City High School and Cleary College with a secretarial degree.

She married Glenn Banton Jr. in Traverse City on Aug. 20, 1949. They enjoyed 23 years together before his passing in 1972.

Arlene retired as a ward clerk at the Traverse City State Hospital after 34 years of service.

She previously attended the First Congregational Church. She was an avid bowler, traveler and enjoyed canoeing, growing tons of roses and attending the Kentucky Derby, among other great places.

Her passion was her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with them, and her home was always open to her children and grandchildren’s many friends.

Arlene is survived by her children, Nancy (William) Blanke, of Grawn, Dennis (Kathy) Banton and Wayne (Debra) Banton, both of Traverse City; grandchildren, Marcus, Keith, Travis, Troy, Adam, Megan, Kyle, Jon and Amanda; great-grandchildren, Dylan, Brandon, Kamryn, Adyson, Carter, Nolan and Carly; and a great-granddaughter to be born in July.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glenn E. Banton Jr.; and sister, Delores Klepac.

Cremation has taken place. An informal gathering to celebrate her life will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at King’s Court Community Center. A private burial will be in the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens, Traverse City.
