---- — HONOR — Emiel “Roy” LeRoy Straubel Jr., 81, of Honor, died Sunday, July 21, 2013, at his home with his family by his side. He was born June 16, 1932, in Flint, the son of Emiel and Ena (Irwin) Straubel Sr.
Roy retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years of faithful service to his country.
He went on to work for Bell Telephone and AT&T. Along with his wife, Roy was co-owner of Baatz Blueberries in Honor.
In his spare time Roy was happy in a boat. He loved to fish and sail. Most of all, Roy loved to spend time with his family.
On June 27, 1998, Roy married Mary Baatz, who survives him. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Marion Schneider, of Germany, Inge Stahl, of Germany, Deb (Gary) Anderson, of Honor, and Eric Baatz, of Edwardsburg; his granddaughter, Melanie Cournoyer, of Quebec, Canada; his brothers, Timothy Straubel, of San Antonio, Texas, and Theodore Straubel, of Roscommon; his aunts, Mary Irwin, of Pelham, Ala., and Jean Mick, of Benzonia; his son-in-law, Rene Cournoyer, of Quebec, Canada; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
On Feb. 4, 1960, in Germany, Roy married Margot Elenore Weidenmuller, who preceded him in death on June 9, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his daughter, Susan Ena Straubel; his brother, William Straubel; and his sister, Betty Jean McCormick.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2013, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah, with Pastor Paul Silbor officiating. Interment will follow in the Benzonia Township Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the United States Army. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home.
