Helen Quigel Died July 17, 2013

HOUSTON, Texas — Helen Quigel, 91, formerly of Elk Rapids, went to be with Our Lord and Savior on July 17, 2013, in Houston, Texas, due to complications following a stroke in late April.

Helen was born on Jan. 10, 1922, in Battle Creek, the daughter of Meno Efremoff and Donna (Stainoff) Efremoff. She graduated from Battle Creek High School and Argubright Business College, Battle Creek. Helen worked 10 years as a civil service employee at Fort Custer, Mich., Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and Army War College in Pennsylvania. She retired in 1983 after 27 years at Cities Service Pipeline Company in Illinois.

Helen is survived by her husband of 65 years, Ernest; sons, Ernest Jr. (Rosemary) of Cary, Ill,, and James of Houston, Texas; brothers, Donald Efremoff of The Villages, Fla., and Anthony Efremoff of Canton, Ohio; granddaughters, Kristi (Ben) Bicknese and Jill Quigel, and grandson, Shawn (Sarah) Quigel; and great-grandsons, Brayden and Blake Bicknese.

Helen was preceded in death by her brother, Peter Efremoff.

Helen’s contagious positive attitude and constant smile made her a joy to be around. Since her retirement, Helen and Ernie enjoyed beautiful summers at their place on Elk Lake, Mich., sharing it with family and friends. They were able to spend winter months in the warmer climate of Houston, where they developed and cherished many wonderful friendships with members of Second Baptist Church.

A memorial service was held at Second Baptist Church in Houston. Memorial tributes may be made to World Vision International.
