LELAND — Robert Joseph Womac, 70, of Leland and Belleville, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, in Leland.
Robert was born on May 12, 1943, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Frank and Celia (Rybak) Womac. On May 22, 1965, in Detroit, he married Pauline Elizabeth Gaunt, who survives.
Robert spent his career with the Ford Motor Company for 36 years, retiring as vice president. He then spent two years as executive vice-president of Visteon. Bob’s proudest moments were being plant manager for the Ford Motor Company in Ypsilanti and Rawsonville and forming EFHD (Electrical Fuel & Handling Division).
Bob had 11 enjoyable, fun-filled and relaxing retirement years. He loved to read, play golf, bridge, Sudoku or any game and spending time on Lake Michigan. His pride and joy was his wife, family and friends.
Bob is loved, cherished and survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Pauline; his four children, Darlene (Eric) Montgomery, James (Monica) Womac, Beth (David) Chie and Robert (Alison) Womac; a brother, James (Christina) Womac; 11 grandchildren; and many friends.
All those who knew and loved Bob felt truly blessed.
Visitation will be held today, July 19, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a wake service at 7 p.m., at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 20, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Lake Leelanau, with a visitation held one hour prior. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. The Rev. Michael Janowski will serve as celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Mary School, PO Box 340, Lake Leelanau, MI 49653; and/or to a charity of one’s choice.
