HONOR — Aleta Ruth Durkee, of Honor, died at age 57 on Thursday, July 3, 2014.
She was born on May 28, 1957, in Pontiac. She married Douglas James Durkee on Oct. 12, 2002, in Lakeville.
She was a light to all in her family and to many in her community and will be sorely missed. She was an incredibly talented lady with an affinity for crafts such as pottery, painting and flower arrangements.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, spoiling her beloved pets, tending to her beautiful flower beds and garden and enjoying life in northern Michigan.
She is survived by her husband; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Devon and Pierre Gholam, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; parents, John and Caroline Leonard, of Leonard; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Margaret Leonard, of Rochester; brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Janet Leonard, of Milford; niece and nephew-in-law, Kristen and Rob Northcott and their children, Abby and Rebecca, of Chesterfield; and niece and nephew-in-law, Jennifer and Philip Mastin and their children Olin, Lily and Grace, of Sterling Heights.
Aleta’s family invites you to celebrate her life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Jowett Family Funeral Homes, 7223 South Street, Benzonia, MI 49616. The service will be followed by a reception at Platte River Inn, 10921 Main Street, Honor, MI 49640. A private ceremony will be held to put Aleta’s ashes to rest in her home gardens she loved so dearly.
