MARION — Leatha Vanderhoef, longtime resident of Marion, passed away on Monday, July 7, 2014, at her home with family by her side. She was 93. Leatha was born on Feb. 20, 1921, to James and Bertha (Bradley) Matthews.
Leatha grew up and attended school in the Kalkaska area.
On Feb. 7, 1942, she entered into marriage with Clarence “Ernie” Vanderhoef.
Leatha made her living working at Riverside Electric and eventually at Evart Products for many years before retiring in 1983.
Leatha will be deeply missed and remembered by many.
Leatha is survived by her loving family; her son, Larry (Iris) Vanderhoef, of Marion; her daughter, Iris (Carl) Boone, of Suttons Bay; her son, Terry (Claretta) Crawford, of Dixon, Mo.; six grandchildren, Grant, Sandy, Calvin, Charlotte, Chad and Cassidy; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Phillip (Shirley) Gerberich; as well as many other loving family members and friends.
Leatha was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Ernie”; her parents; six brothers, Stub, George, Lloyd, Howard, Clyde and Clifford Matthews; and three sisters, Stella Sieting, Vella Matthews and Doris Rieve.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m., at Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home, located on Mitchell Street in Cadillac. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014, also at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Highland Township Cemetery.
