FIFE LAKE — Phyllis Ann Kitchin, 82, of Fife Lake, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Phyllis was born on March 16, 1932, in Mancelona, to the late Lee and Marguerite Mason.
A graduate and lifetime member of the Grace Hospital Nursing Association, Phyllis worked as a registered nurse in the field of mental health at the Traverse City State Hospital.
A few years later after marrying her husband, Dr. Wendell Clarence Kitchin, she became a devoted wife, homemaker and loving mother.
Phyllis enjoyed life’s blessings, often feeding and watching the birds. She was an avid reader who was also very well versed in the arts.
Phyllis will be greatly missed by her husband, Wendell; and children, Amy Kitchin, of Washington, D.C., Ann (Richard) Kitchin, of Colchester, Vt., Bill (Pat) Kitchin, of Mayfield, and Sam (Margaret) Kitchin, of Flushing. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Alex, Joseph and Adam, of Flushing, Shaun and Leah, of Mayfield, and Jascha and Iain, of Colchester; sister, Darlene Mol, of Spring Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Louis and Theodore Mason; and sister, Donna Mason.
A memorial service will take place at the First Congregational Church, 101 State St., Charlevoix, MI 49720, on Friday, July 11, 2014, at 1 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made in Phyllis’ honor to the Fife Lake Library or the American Lung Association.
