HARBOR SPRINGS — Bernice Nelson, 93, of Harbor Springs, passed away on June 20, 2014, at Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs. Bernice was born Aug. 5, 1920, in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of John H. and Ana (Hilgendorf) Michels.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Olga, Mildred and Dorothy; and three brothers, Irwin, Harold and Martin. Her lifetime companion, William F. Nelson, whom she married on May 15, 1942, also preceded her in death.
Bernice’s life took her from Milwaukee to Lansing, Detroit, Livonia, Cincinnati and finally to their retirement home on Burt Lake.
She spent time as a bank teller, bank auditor and as a Realtor.
Wherever she lived she was involved in a bridge club. Other interests included golf, pottery, painting and travel.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Susan (Ray) Haas, of Higgins Lake; and her son, Jim (Connie) Nelson, of Traverse City. Her grandchildren include Randy, Christine, Jamie, Brian and Kim. Nine great-grandchildren also survive.
The family is asking you to join them in a memorial luncheon scheduled on July 19 at 1 p.m. at Staffords Bay View Inn in Petoskey.
