Lyle Owen Wolfgang

HARLINGEN, Texas — Lyle Owen Wolfgang, 87, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014, in Harlingen, Texas.

Lyle was born on Sept. 20, 1926, in Flint, to Murl Wolfgang and Minnie Holsinger. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a Seaman 2nd Class where he served on the USS Louisville in the Pacific during World War II.

Later in life he was an Honorary graduate of Grand Blanc High School.

Lyle lived and worked in the Flint area, where he began a career with the Buick Motor Division from 1948 to 1982. He spent most of his time as a final car auditor in the Quality Department. He was a member of the UAW Local 599 and later in Harlingen, Texas, a volunteer courtesy driver at Valley Baptist Medical Center.

Upon retirement he and his wife moved to their cottage on Duck Lake in Grawn and later to Harlingen, Texas.

Lyle is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth, of Harlingen, Texas; son, Gerald (Cheryl), of Burton; grandsons, Michael (Sandra) Moulton, of Flint, Devon (Deirdre) Wolfgang, of Dublin, Ireland, and Matthew (Lea) Moulton, of Waukesha, Wis.; granddaughter, Kimberly Wolfgang, of Fenton; sister, Ernestine (Carl) Hempel, of Grand Blanc; four great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Ralph and Richard (Helen) Misener, both of Florida, and Don and Terry (Martha) Misener, both of Michigan; sisters-in-law, Leone and Beverly Wolfgang, both of Michigan; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind great friends, Dave (Dona) Meinhart, Larry (Bev) Hinsa, Bill (Jean) Shedler, Archie (Gloria) Ostberg, Phyllis Summerfelt, Andy Ferrero and many others at Dixieland Mobile Park.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael; his parents; and brothers, Clifford, Raymond, Dean and Barry.

The family would also like to thank the nursing staff of the third, fourth and fifth floors and I.C.U. Department at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.

Lyle was cremated as per his wishes, and no services are scheduled at this time.
