CHELSEA — William J. Fagan, 91, of Chelsea, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Silver Maples Retirement Community in Chelsea. He was born on May 16, 1923, in Oakland, Calif., the son of William J. and Mabel (Wieland) Fagan. He came to the Chelsea area from Traverse City in 2011.
Bill honorably served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II as a Second Lieutenant.
He was employed with Michigan Bell as a senior auditor.
Bill enjoyed fishing, reading, bird watching, and “would have made a wonderful professor.”
He is survived by his wife, Delight (Knasel) Fagan, of Chelsea; his children, Janice (Steven) Hable, of Howell, and Cheryl (Michael) Harrison, of Burbank, Calif.; stepchildren, David (Debbie) Johnson, of Grand Haven, Brenda (Ronald) Schaub, of Grand Rapids, and Melody (Thomas) Werner, of Chelsea; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Doris A. Spens; and his brother, Alan Fagan.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in the Maples Room at Silver Maples Retirement Community, Chelsea. Interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arbor Hospice Foundation or St. Mary Catholic Church in Chelsea.
