---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Marie Cecilia Clous, 88, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 13, 2013, in her home. Marie was a resident of Traverse City all her life.
Although primarily a homemaker, at one time she was a clerk for the railroad and was assistant treasurer of the Traverse City Iron Works Federal Credit Union.
Marie played piano for a few years in a three-piece band with her brother, Richard and enjoyed music all her life. She enjoyed plastic canvas and crocheting baby “burp” cloths. She loved visiting others and having family and friends over for chats.
She was very proud of all her children and grandchildren and was awarded “Mother of the Year” at a St. Francis Mother’s Day function. She was a lifelong member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Marie and husband, Alfred were very involved with activities there such as taking communion to the homebound, counting collections, teaching Catechism and training altar servers.
She graduated from Traverse City Saint Francis High School. She married Alfred J. Clous on July 29, 1949. Last July they celebrated 65 years of marriage with a party celebrated with family, friends and three of the four original attendants.
She was born on Sept. 4, 1924, to Frank and Emma (Denoyer) Yankee, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Richard Yankee and James Yankee; daughter-in-law, Tina Clous; and grandson-in-law, Trent Winn; and stepfather, Ambrose Jorgensen.
She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 66 years, Alfred; and 10 children, Joan (Dick) Scott, of Traverse City, Robert (Sally), of Lake Ann, Richard (Ann), of Cadillac, Marlene (Ed) Robinson, of Young America, Minn., Nancy (Bob) Scholl, of Auburndale, Fla., Don (Patty), of Cadillac, Gary (Elizabeth), of Traverse City, Linda (Jake) Roop, of Traverse City, Jane (Mike) Krajnik, of Galesburg, Kenneth and partner, Louise, of Cadillac. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, soon to be 23.
A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at St. Francis Catholic Church on Thursday, July 18, at 11 a.m., with a viewing starting at 10 a.m., on Thursday. There will also be visitation today, July 17, from 7 to 9 p.m., with a rosary recitation at 7:30 p.m. Traverse City Council Knights of Columbus Color Corps will assist at the rosary recitation and viewing. Interment will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Church in Marie’s memory.
