Traverse City Record-Eagle
---- — HONOR — Gerald “Jerry” Guy Rodebush, 70, of Honor, lost his battle to pancreatic cancer on June 9, 2013, at his home, while surrounded by loved ones.
Jerry was born July 17, 1942, at the Anna Markham Hospital, in Frankfort, Mich. to Guy and Gertrude (Manke) Rodebush. Jerry’s entire life revolved around water; he grew up on Crystal Lake swimming, fishing, and boating. He started working on and with boats at a very young age in his family’s marina. Jerry attended school in Frankfort. Although he moved to Tampa, Fla. ,in high school, he moved back his senior year to graduate from Frankfort High School.
Jerry worked for several boat companies over the years as a design engineer. He knew every aspect of boats and the boat business. He could do everything from designing, building, sales, and fixing boats.
On Feb. 28, 1997, Jerry married Pattie Rockwell. Jerry and Pattie brought together six children: Geraldine Rodebush Brown of Port Charlotte, Fla., Kristine (Bill) McIntyre of Port Saint Lucie, Fla., Charlie (Jessica) Rodebush of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Suzie (Ron) Smith of Rockwall, Texas, Shelly (Mike) Poynor of Beulah, Mich, and Buffy Berry of Brick, N.J. Jerry has 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Jerry is also survived by his brother Denny (Peggy) Rodebush of Tampa, Fla. and brother Bill (Heidi) Rodebush of Pensacola, Fla. There are numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry and Pattie traveled the Eastern United States for several years repairing boats. When possible, they enjoyed visiting with family and friends. They also made a point to enjoy sights such as Hawk Mountain in Pennsylvania or the John James Audubon State Park in Henderson, Ky. However, both of them found that home was no other place than Benzie County.
Those who were lucky enough to meet Jerry understand what a selfless, intelligent, genuine, and positive man he was even in his last days. Although he will be missed greatly, he will never be forgotten.
Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Frankfort, with Pastor Richard B. Stieve officiating.
For anyone curious of where Jerry is, he finally has gone fishin’.
