TRAVERSE CITY — John William Robson, of Traverse City, died peacefully at home Monday, July 8, 2013. He was born to Lula Bronson and Thomas Robson on Jan. 4, 1913, in Whitehall, where he was raised.
John was the brother of Gladys Robson Nufer and Thomas Carroll, both deceased.
A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, John moved to Wilmington, Del., and joined the DuPont Company as an analytical chemist at the Experimental Station.
After numerous Crystal Lake vacations he retired to Beulah in 1973. He and his wife loved the natural beauty of the area as well as the opportunities to sail, fish, shoot skeet, hunt, iceboat, snowmobile and golf throughout Benzie County.
John took an active part in the community and served on the Beulah Village Council for six years. He was a longtime member of the First Congregational UCC of Benzonia.
John’s wives preceded him in death. He was married to Marjorie McCall Robson, mother of Carole Robson Howell (Peter), of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Virginia Humphrey Robson, mother of Linda Humphrey Maier (Walt), of Jacksonville, Fla., Susan Humphrey Prettyman, of Camden, S.C., Sally Humphrey Bachman (Lou), of Hockessin, Del., Nancy Humphrey Riggin (Eddie), of Newark, Del., and Lucille Snow Robson, mother of Frank Snow (Sue) and Bob Snow, deceased, (Betty).
He was a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013, at the First Congregational UCC in Benzonia, with the Reverend Daniel E. Furman officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution in John’s memory may be made to the First Congregational UCC or to the charity of your choice.
