CADILLAC — Richard Johnson Runstrom, age 89, of Cadillac, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013, at Curry House. Richard was born the son of Walter and Ida (Johnson) on July 8, 1923, in Grand Rapids.
He was a veteran of World War II and served as Sergeant in the China Burma India Theater.
He was employed by the Detroit Ball Bearing Company in Saginaw as branch manager and district manager, retiring in 1985 after 39 years of service.
Mr. Runstrom married Marie Hutchings in 1950. They were married for 47 years before she passed away and were the proud parents of six children and spouses.
He is survived by children, Linda (Robert) Wilcox, of Ft. Lauderdale, Thomas (Diane), of Traverse City, Virginia (friend, Randy), of Saginaw, James (Julie), of Traverse City, and Eric (Jill), of Cadillac; grandchildren, Matt Wilcox, Amanda (Luis) Castro, Melissa (Ryan) Benzenberg, Jeremy (Danielle) Runstrom, Michael Runstrom, Laura Runstrom, Jason Grinnell, Jamie Campbell, Justin Campbell, Jasmine Campbell, Charlie Runstrom and Katie Runstrom; 10 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Dawn Runstrom; and sister-in-law, Garnet Runstrom.
He was predeceased by son, Richard; brothers, Raymond and Walter; and his faithful dog, Poika.
Visitation will take place at Hitesman-Holdship Funeral Home in Cadillac on Thursday, June 27, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013, at the Zion Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Scott Torkko officiating. Interment shall be at Maple Hill Cemetery.
