Traverse City Record-Eagle
---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Mr. Charles “Nick” Harry Nicholson, 79, of Traverse City, set sail into eternity on June 18, 2013, with his three loving girls “Charlie’s Angels” at his side. He was born to the late Harry and Marion (Lewis) Nicholson on Jan. 1, 1934, in Detroit.
He retired from AT&T as a supervisor technician after 42 years.
He married wife, Beverly (Gabourie) Nicholson on March 14, 1975, in Lansing. The couple resided in Traverse City for the last 30 years and spent 38 years together before Beverly’s passing in 2012.
Nick enjoyed traveling with Beverly for work as well as leisure. He was an avid sailor, and the two would often sail on Lake Michigan and vacation on Beaver Island in the summer. For many years he would host lobster cookouts on Power Island. Sailing was his passion, and he enjoyed taking his family and friends, often giving them lessons on how to sail and emphasizing the safety of wearing life jackets to his grandchildren. He was a past member of the Bay City Yacht Club and a frequent visitor of the Sail Inn Bar, where he liked to go to socialize with his friends. Nick was a master chef in his own kitchen and was often found thumbing through a recipe book. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by daughters, Pam Eubank, of Johannesburg, and Cheryl (Randy) Mayer, of Memphis; son, Gary Nicholson, of Detroit; loving granddaughter, Kara (Steven) Wilhelm, of Traverse City; loving granddaughter, Kami (Jay) Bartholomew, of White Lake; loving grandson, Kevin (Inna) Klein, of Shelby; grandchildren, Ethan, Jared and Carrie; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Makayla, Camren and Evan; sister, Karen (Ed) Buckberrough, of Brighton; and dogs, Apollo and Samantha.
