TRAVERSE CITY — Richard E. Miller, 88, of Leland, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
He was born on Feb. 17, 1925, in Bellville, Ohio, to the late Paul and Helen (Nichols) Miller. He was married to Elizabeth “Betty” Booth on Feb. 11, 1952, in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She survives him.
Dick was a proud graduate of Ohio University.
He had been employed with the East Ohio Gas Company, retiring in 1995 after over 30 years of service.
Since his retirement Dick and Betty were residents of Leland.
He was a member of the Leland United Methodist Church as well as the Leland Rotary.
Dick had a passion for politics; he was a very proud American and a proud Republican. Dick loved the weather; he was an amateur meteorologist and many family and friends would call on Dick for an accurate weather forecast.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Betty; his son and daughter, Tom Miller and Mary Beth Mitchael; two grandchildren, Kristen (Steve) Hoebel-Hernandez and Lucaus Mitchael; and a great-grandson, Ryland Hernandez.
Dick was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Miller Jr.
A funeral service honoring Richard will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Leland United Methodist Church, 106 N. Fourth St., Leland, MI. Pastor Virginia Heller will officiate. Burial will follow in Beechwood Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with Dick’s family on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, from 2 to 6 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
