TRAVERSE CITY — Leroy C. Rohn, 82, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at Munson Medical Center. He was born in Frankfort on April 26, 1931, the son of Walter and Helen Rohn. He graduated from Frankfort High School in 1949. He served in the United States Air Force, joining the military in March 1951. He was stationed at Shaw Air Force base, S.C. as a mechanic.
Leroy married Ruby Gray on Nov. 21, 1956, in Beulah. Leroy followed his father as the operator of Rohn’s Sales and Service Desoto, Plymouth and Ford tractor dealership after the untimely death of his parents in 1956. He sold and repaired cars, and later focused on excavation contracting. He loved restoring antique tractors, and was a longtime participant at the Buckley Old Engine Show every August.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ruby, and is survived by his brother Walter (Phyllis) of Frankfort; sons Walter (Beth) of St. Louis, Mo., Michael (Patti) and Kenneth of Frankfort, and Earl of Henderson, Nev.; his daughter Ruby (Thomas) Kidd of Waco, Texas; four grandchildren, Erick and Amanda Rohn, and Jonathan and Joshua Kidd; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Betty (George) Blood of Holland, Gertrude (Chet) Burley of Kalamazoo, Wanda (Bob) Gray of Traverse City and Anna (Bill) Gray of Frankfort.
Visitation will take place from 4 -6 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 27, at Jowett Funeral Home in Frankfort. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Frankfort, with Fr. John Porter officiating. Interment will be at Gilmore Township Cemetery.
