THOMPSONVILLE — Dean D. Rhodes, Thompsonville, 78, died Oct. 17, 2013 at Munson Medical Center. Born in Bendon, Mich. on April 24, 1935 the son of Louis M. and Molly P. Rhodes. Dean honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the FOE Aerie #1765, VFW of Interlochen and IOOF #419. On July 30, 1955 Dean married Marie A. Hammond who preceded him in death in 2008.
Dean was also well known local musician playing with various bands, The Vested Gentry, Mellow Tones, Jammers Orchestra, Melody Makers, Thompsonville Community and the Country Playboys. He served on Lake County Zoning Administration and was a supervisor for the following townships, Weldon, Pleasant Plaine and Lake. In 1986, Dean retired from CSX Railroad after retirement he was a currier for Honor Banks. He also owned Pines Motel in Baldwin.
Dean is survived by daughter, Deanna (Randy) Merrill; daughter in law, Tanya Kent; grandchildren, Chad (Linda), Kevin (Jessica) Jr., Jeremi, Alissa, Desi, Brittany and CJ; great grandchildren, Olivia Grace and JR; siblings, Elaine Hammond, James (Jean), Evelyn Shelder, Maxine (James) Steinmiller, Louis (Laura); brother in law, Larry (Ellen) Hammond. several nieces and nephews and special friend, Anne Philips.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Jowett Family Funeral Homes in Benzonia. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20 at the funeral home with Rev. Roy Hewitt officiating. Burial in Inland Twp. Cemetery. Contributions may be directed towards the American Cancer Society.
