---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Walter Glenn Anthony, age 89, of Traverse City, formerly of St. Clair Shores, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 3, 2013 at his home with his family at his side. He was born March 9, 1923 in Deanville, Pa. to Emory C. and Iola (Rivers) Anthony.
On Aug. 11, 1951, Walter married the late Vera Doan. Together they raised two children. Walter worked for Consumers Power Company for 31 years. He also served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, spending time in England, France, and North Africa.
Walter was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Mitchell Creek Golf Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and he made his own lures. Walter was a charter member of the DAV post 115 in St. Clair Shores and he transferred to Post 38 in Traverse City.
Walter is survived by two children, Maureen Anthony of Traverse City, and Michael (Dorothy) Anthony of Milliken, Colo.; four grandchildren, Scott, Amy, Jason, and Aubrey and several great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his wife Vera, son Tim Anthony, three brothers and three sisters.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service is being planned fo the spring.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home of Traverse City.
