LAKE ANN — Deanna Joy Sommerfeld, age 75 of Lake Ann, passed away at home on Feb. 23, 2013, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s and breast cancer.

Deanna was born on Nov. 4, 1937, in Pontiac, to Alex and Beulah Parker. The family moved to Bad Axe when she was young. Deanna married her high school sweetheart, Owen Sommerfeld, in August of 1964, and they were just short of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Deanna was a cancer crusader in Benzie County and for several years she was also the Benzie Chair Person.

When Owen retired from the Michigan State Police, they traveled extensively for a year going to many antique shows, shops and sales. In 1990, they started as dealers in Wilson Antiques in Traverse City.

Surviving Deanna is her husband, Owen; four sisters, Gail (Jim) Millgard of Port Austin, Charlene (Phil) McBride of Elkton, Lori Parker of Bad Axe, and Renee (Larry) Pulcer of Harbor Beach; a brother-in-law Lynn (Kay) Sommerfeld of Wyoming; two special nieces, Meghann and Lindsey Pulcer of Saginaw; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Deanna was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bonnie; and brother-in-law, Ralph Gottschalk.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Benzie County Animal Shelter in Beulah.

Family services will take place in the spring in Bad Axe.
