MANISTEE — Rose A. Miller, age 93 of Manistee, died Sunday morning, Dec. 16, 2012 at the Green Acres Retirement Home in Manistee surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 18, 1919 in Manistee, and was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Victoria M. (Lempke) Siuda. Rose was a graduate of Manistee High School with the Class of 1937. She married Charles W. Miller on April 16, 1943 in Granada, Miss. Charles preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1986.
Rose lived her entire life on her family farm acreage, except for two years during which she lived in Muskegon while her husband was employed there.
She had many interests and hobbies. She made rugs on her loom. She crocheted many mittens, scarves, hats, and prayer shawls, all of which she donated to various organizations. She was an avid pinochle player and frequently was the game winner. She also enjoyed gardening.
She belonged to various organizations during her life including Mothers Clubs while her children were in school and later the Auxiliaries of the Disabled American Veterans Salt City Chapter #43 and the Catholic War Veterans Post #1847 both of Manistee. Rose was also a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church of Manistee.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Ellen and James Campeau of Woodhaven, Mich., Charles W. and Susan Miller of Plymouth, Mich., and Donna Jean and Tom Weber of Kaleva, Mich.; her grandchildren: James (Bridgette) Campeau of Jackson, Mich., Andrea (Rick) Elder of Kentwood, Mich., Melinda Miller of Fenton, Mich., Stephanie Miller of Boston, Mass.; one step grandchild, Claire (Justin) Binek of Philadelphia, Pa.; six great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
Rose was also preceded in death by three brothers, John, Casimer and Stanley Siuda; her sister Elizabeth Darling; four half-brothers, Joseph, Frank, Chester Pruski and Andrew Siuda and by two half-sisters, Bessie Knox and Mary Switalski.
Mass from The Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Reverend John McCracken celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery also in Manistee.
Relatives and friends will pray the Evening Vigil service at 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday and at the church on Thursday morning, one hour prior to the funeral mass.
Memorials will be established in Rose's name for Manistee Catholic Central Schools and Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and at the church on Thursday morning.
