KINGSLEY — Valita Boehnlein, 95, of Kingsley, went peacefully home to her Lord at Tender Care of Traverse City on Dec. 9, 2012 with her loving family by her side. Valita was born Feb. 9, 1917 to William and Nettie (Hiebel) Ockert in Hannah. She was the second oldest of nine children.
Valita married Albert Boehnlein at St. Mary Hannah's Catholic Church on April 21, 1936. She was a devout Catholic; she loved the Lord and was faithful in her beliefs. Valita cherished her family and home, which was her domain. She took pride in being a homemaker and was the model of hospitality. She loved having company. Everyone who visited felt welcome and no one would ever leave hungry. She made delicious food and large meals. Valita served in the Altar Society of Hannah and was known for her pies and gravy that she made for the annual Hannah chicken dinner. She was passionate about flower and vegetable gardening and liked to give away what she grew. She loved ice cream and disliked thunderstorms. During storms, she would burn palms and pray for the storm to pass.
Valita is survived by her daughters Theresa (Bob) Schichtel, and Jean (John) Baynton; daughter-in-law Jodie Stauffer; sisters Rita (Ray) Sedlacek, and Teresa VanPelt; sisters-in-law Emma Ockert, Vivian Ockert, and Marie Ockert; brother-in-law Allan Cleland; grandchildren Todd Norris, Angie (Todd) Boonstra, Jenny (Douglas) Reid, Julie (Zac) Adams, Bill Stauffer, Heather Stauffer, Barratt (Samantha) Schichtel, and Rob (Beth) Schichtel, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Albert, son Bill Stauffer-Mesick, brothers Claude, Edward, and James Ockert, sisters Rose (Elmer) Schmuckal, Veronica (Leonard) Taylor, and Alice Cleland, and brothers-in-law Bud Wright and Chet VanPelt. Valita's family would like to thank Tender Care for their wonderful service and care.
