---- — CLAWSON, Mich. — Doris Marie Rowland, age 83, of Clawson, was called home Nov. 25, 2012, to be with her loved ones who had gone before.
She was born on Aug. 14, 1929, in Austin, Ind., to Lillian and Louis Moberly. Doris graduated from Hazel Park High School in 1947. On Jan. 28, 1950, she married Robert Welborn Rowland, sharing almost 63 years together.
Mom was deeply involved with the activities of Tabernacle Baptist Church of Hazel Park her entire life. When her children were young she participated in the Clawson PTA, and surrounding activities of their school-age years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, planning and taking them on day trips to places they had never been before. Mom was an avid reader, and loved social activities with family and friends. While Mom enjoyed working her entire adult life, she made it clear that her family's needs would always come first. She finished her secretarial career in the late 1980s at Novi Die.
Doris is survived by her husband, Robert "Welborn" Rowland; her children, James (Joan) Rowland, and Janet (Ron) Patty; grandchildren, Autumn Patty, Makala Patty, Amanda Bain, Derek Mann, and Jenelle Kroupa; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her brother, Allen (Jean) Moberly, and sister-in-law Eleanor Moberly.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Lillian and Louis Moberly; her brother, Louis Moberly; and an infant sister, Nelly Moberly.
A memorial service to celebrate Mom's life will be held Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m., with visitation one hour prior at Tabernacle Baptist Church of Hazel Park. Cremation has already taken place.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, gifts be directed to Mom's beloved Tabernacle Baptist Church of Hazel Park. Please share condolences at www.covellfuneralhomes.com.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Home in Traverse City.
