TRAVERSE CITY — Daniel C. Montie, 83, of Traverse City, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Munson Medical Center. Daniel was born in Ecorse on Aug. 28, 1928, the son of Earl and Claire (White) Montie.
He graduated from Ecorse High School in 1945.
Dan joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in Washington D.C.
After an honorable discharge from the military he went to work at National Steel as a computer analyst and retired after 30 years of service.
During retirement Dan and his wife operated a gourmet food store, Montie's Cheese Works, in Sarasota, Fla., and Wilmington, N.C.
In 1994 Dan and his family settled in Traverse City, where he designed and built the family's home. He was able to fish, hunt and feed the wildlife. He especially loved spending time in his garden and reading.
Dan was a successful man and enjoyed life. He was always very content and even-tempered.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of almost 35 years, Mary (Bound) Montie; seven children, David (Olga) Montie, Sandra Heimlicher, Michael Montie, Danielle (Dean) Hardy, Patricia (James) Gronda, Jennifer (Scott) Weese and Daniel J. (Ann) Montie; brother, Richard E. (Rose Marie) Montie; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Dan's parents, Earl and Claire Montie, preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at Redeemer Lutheran Church of Interlochen.
