INTERLOCHEN — Joan Louise Oakley, 83, of Interlochen, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City. She was born Dec. 27, 1930, in Lansing, the daughter of Warren and Esther (Grandy) Hutchinson.
Joan worked as a uniform attendant at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.
When she was younger Joan loved going to community dances with her family and friends. She always enjoyed a beautiful sunny day and loved to travel whenever she had the chance.
Joan is survived by her children, Linda (Gary) Braden, of Interlochen, Michelle (Tasos) Kallas, of Green Bay, Wis., and Ronald (Jessica) Oakley, of Interlochen; her grandchildren, Mandy (Erik), Molly (Scott), Aaron, Elizabeth, Sophia, Ronald Jr. “R.J.”, Ashley, Emma and Ben; her great-grandchildren, Carter, Drew, Kyler and Keaton; and her siblings, Jean Donaldson, Warren Hutchinson, Shirley (LeRoy) Brown, William Hutchinson and Lorraine (Clarence “Bud”) Olney.
In May of 1955 Joan married Gilbert Oakley, who preceded her in death in 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, James Hutchinson, Donald Hutchinson and Terrence “Terry” Hutchinson; and her brother-in-law, Richard Donaldson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah. Interment will follow in the Inland Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of services at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home.
