Geraldine G. Houdek


LELAND — Geraldine G. Houdek, 84, of Leland, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Munson Medical Center.

Geraldine was born Dec. 20, 1928, in Cedar, the daughter of John and Anna (Fleis) Maleski. Geraldine met Louis Wencel Houdek in 1946 and on Oct. 2, 1948, they married at St. Wenceslaus Church of Gills Pier.

Geraldine was a graduate of Leland High School.

During her lifetime she worked in the Leland School lunch program, Leelanau Enterprise, Leland Mercantile and was a member of the Leland Women's Civic Club.

She enjoyed fishing, cooking, playing Bingo and ice fishing with her loving husband, Louis. Geraldine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She truly loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her friends.

Geraldine is survived by her husband of 64 years, Louis; two children, Jerry (Julie) Houdek and Debbie (Ric) Cook; a brother, Steve Maleski; five grandchildren, Jason (Krista) Krohn, Amy (Michael) Pallo, Gerald (Heather) Houdek Jr., Rachel Anderson and Vanessa Houdek; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery; four brothers, Raymond, John, Robert and Clem Maleski; and four sisters, Gertrude Bankertz, Anna McDonall, Alice Russell and Jeanette Kalchik.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 18, with the wake service to be held at 7 p.m., at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. The funeral Mass will celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church of Gills Pier. Father Zeljko Guberovic of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church will serve as celebrant. Burial in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery will be announced in the spring.
