LAKE CITY — Charles E. Higgins, age 76, of Lake City, passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at his home. Chuck was born March 27, 1936, in Brown City and graduated from Capac High School.
He married Luanne Sherman June 11, 1977.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserves and the U.S. Marine Corps.
Charles retired from the State of Michigan Social Services Department after a long and successful career.
He was on the Human Services Board of Directors and designated as a Human Services Volunteer of the Year. He was a member of the Cadillac First Presbyterian Church, serving as Elder. Volunteering and involvement in the local communities was always the heart of Charles Higgins, to name a few would include Missaukee Habitat for Humanity, Love, Inc. Board of Directors, Missaukee Community Foundation and the Michigan County Social Services Association.
Charles is survived by his wife, Luanne; son and wife, Michael and Dawn Higgins, of Port Huron; and grandchildren, Sean Michael, Kaelan Maeve and Reilly Noelle; brothers, Harold Montgomery, Joseph, Bryon, Bruce, John and James Higgins; and sisters, Charlene Kondur and Beverly King.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cadillac, with the Rev. Paul Tomlinson officiating. Visitation will be today, Jan. 23, 2013, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Young Funeral Home in Lake City. Visitation will also be from 10 a.m. until service time at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery in Bad Axe.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Missaukee Community Foundation, Cadillac First Presbyterian Church or the Michigan County Social Services Association Scholarship Fund.
