---- — BUCKLEY — Richard G. Nurmi, 65, of Buckley, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Tendercare Birchwood.
Richard was born on May 29, 1948, in Wakefield, the son of Chinky and Alice Nurmi. After graduating high school in 1966, Richard married Edna (Sturkol) and was an E7 Weapons Specialist in the United States Air Force. He was a volunteer firefighter and retired from the DNR after 25 years of service. He enjoyed welding, was an avid reader, loved to socialize, and was a former Vice President of the Buckley Old Engine Show. Richard was a kind father with never a harsh word, and a very thoughtful husband, never missing an anniversary or other special days. Richard enjoyed his life very much, spending time with his wife and savoring every meal he ate.
Richard is survived by his wife, Edna Nurmi; children, Rena (Tim) Lhamon and Rich (Linnaea Melcarek) Nurmi; grandchildren, Tim and Nadea Lhamon, Pete and Casey Lhamon, Kate and Bill Swisher, Bruce and Casey Watt, and Page (Tony Jeanette) Watt; great-grandchildren, Ember, Addisin, Espn, and Easton Lhamon, Tristan and Adrienne Lhamon, Isaac and Evan Swisher, and Ariana Jeanette; siblings, Carl (Mary) Nurmi and Diane (Joel) Laessig; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and great-grandson, Zander Lhamon.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, at 7:30 p.m. at The Tabernacle in Buckley, with visitation one hour prior.
