FIFE LAKE — Alan “Jay” Saylor, age 36, of Fife Lake, died in an accident Friday, Dec. 6, 2013. Jay was born on March 15, 1977, in Cadillac, to Albert and Cynthia (Welch) Saylor, and attended Forest Area Schools.
While employed with D & W Mechanical in Traverse City, he received on-the-job training for many years, and eventually received his journeyman license. He was currently employed with Sheren Plumbing in Traverse City.
Jay was loved by all, and had so many great friends. The family remembers him for making you smile as soon as he came into a room. He knew how to brighten up any situation. He loved to play the guitar and was well known for his music. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Jay is survived by his wife, Melissa, children, James Sloat, Chelsea, Britttany, and Joshua Saylor, and parents, Albert and Cynthia Welch, all of Fife Lake; brother, Jason of Cadillac; and sister, Andrea (Dennis) Dunn of Manton. Also surviving are aunts, Beverly and Carol Saylor, Pat (Jim) Matthews, Linda Scharnowski; uncles, Anthony (Teresa) Welch and Irving Welch; and mother- and father-in-law, Marjorie and Almon Hulwick.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Marie (Albert) Saylor, and Irving (Florence) Welch.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Wolfe-O’Neill Funeral Home, 106 S. Cherry St., Kalkaska. Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, from 2 to 8 p.m., and on Wednesday from noon until the time of service. Burial in the spring will be held at St. Aloysious Cemetery in Fife Lake.
