TRAVERSE CITY — Mrs. Eliza “Jane” Throop, a lifelong resident of the Traverse City area, passed away Dec. 5, 2013, at the age of 92.
Jane was born July 19, 1921, to William and Eva (Norton) Manville in Grant Township. She married Volney Charles Throop June 29, 1940; he preceded her in death after 69 years of marriage in 2009.
Jane had worked for many years at several local businesses including Berks Flex O Lure, the Cigar Box factory and Cherry Growers, as well as a homemaker for her family.
Jane enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was a very proud grandmother. She loved to spend time at the Senior Center taking part in all of the activities that they offered. Jane really enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and poker, along with bowling, knitting and an occasional trip to the casino.
Jane was also preceded in death by her son, Lynn Throop; her parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
She is survived by her son, Volney Douglas Throop; granddaughters, Marci (Jim) Novak and Brandi (Jason) Damville; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Carter Didion.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at 11 a.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visitation to start at 10 a.m.
