TRAVERSE CITY — Gladys Marie Rivard, 95, of Traverse City, passed away Dec. 3, 2013, at Munson Hospice House.
Gladys was born on Oct. 27, 1918, in Long Lake Township, to the late Loren and Caroline (Dalzell) Wares. In 1938 Gladys married Almon Jake Rivard.
Gladys was a strong, faithful friend and a devoted wife and mother.
She was a devout member of Grace Episcopal Church.
In her spare time Gladys enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of the Traverse City Golf & Country Club. She was an excellent Bridge player and also enjoyed playing tennis. Gladys loved to dance and listen to music, especially country music. She was also known for her million dollar fudge and famous date and nut bars.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, A. Jake Rivard, who passed away while on vacation in China; daughter, Kay Jean; and brothers, Theron “Moose” Wares, Earl Wares and Kenneth Wares.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Jayne (Daniel) McCormick; grandchildren, Patty Jo Hopkins, Laura Roush, Michael (Mami) Roush, Melissa (Mark) Blodgett, Amy McCormick, Susan McCormick and Daniel (Pam) McCormick; great-grandchildren, Katie, Jordan, Alexis, Vanessa, Lindsey, Maegan, Hannah, Brady, Casey and Mckenzie; sister-in-law, Dorothy Wares; and special friend, Zora McIntyre.
The funeral celebrating Gladys’ life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Grace Episcopal Church, at 12:30 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. The Very Rev. Daniel P. Richards will lead the service of remembrance.
