Martha Y. Favela

Traverse City Record-Eagle

---- — TRAVERSE CITY - Martha Yres Favela, 70, of Traverse City passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Martha was born March 10, 1943, in Mercedes, Texas, the daughter of Ygnacio and Anita (Longoria) Luna. On Aug. 7, 1959, in Corpus Christi, Texas, she married her loving husband of 54 years, Armando Favela, who survives.

Martha confessed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was well-known for her cooking of Spanish cuisine. She made many of her clothes as she loved to sew and embroider. Welcoming all young children to call her “Tata,” she built long-lasting relationships with them and often shared her faith.

One of her most favorite things was having tea parties with her grandchildren, even as they grew up. As she traveled with the family music ministry, she held the honored position of Prayer Warrior, asking God’s blessings, protection and traveling mercies as they traveled through many towns and states.

The family wishes to thank the following for their wonderful care of our dearest Martha: Caryn Omey, daughter-in-love; Sherry Weir and family; and Kelly Johnston and family. The family would also like to thank the staff at Munson Medical Center and the staff of Munson Hospice.

Martha is survived by her husband, Armando; five children, Armando (Laura) Favela Jr., Yvonne (Dave) Smiddy, Javier (Sue) Favela, Gina (Darren) Schlegel, Marina (Nik) Mathias; seven siblings; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; two sisters; and an infant daughter, Edna Favela in 1964.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, at Mt. Zion Family Worship Center, 4950 E. Silver Lake Rd., Traverse City, Rev. Michael Wermuth will officiate.
