BENZONIA — Norman Lee Stewart, 87, of Benzonia, formerly of Mt. Morris, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Paul Oliver Living and Rehabilitation Center in Frankfort. He was born Sept. 22, 1926, in Flint, Mich., the son of Lee and Beatrice (Stilson) Stewart.
Norman was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, and a past post commander and life member of the Mt. Morris VFW Post 7577. He was also a lifetime member of the NRA.
In 1991, Norman retired from General Motors where he had been employed for more than 27 years. In his spare time, Norman enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and dancing, especially polkas.
Norman is survived by his children, Kathy Marcou of Burton, Mich., Lynne Marie Stewart of Mt. Morris, Mich., Lee (Robin) Stewart of Clio, Mich., Cheryl (Tim) Brown of Yale, Mich., Brian (Debbie) Stewart of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Patty (Ron) Konieczka of Mt. Morris, Mich.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his sister, Doris (John) Marshal of Benzonia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Norman was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Phyllis Gilbert Stewart in 2004; and two sisters, Aleatha Kostal and Rosena Mimranek.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home, in Beulah. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the funeral home.
