---- — RAPID CITY — Alfred W. “Dutch” Pfleger, age 93, of Rapid City, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center – L.T.C. He was born on June 15, 1920, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Alfred and Augusta B. (Malohn) Pfleger.

Dutch married Mary A. Verbiskas on Oct. 31, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio. They moved to Rapid City in 1982 after Dutch’s retirement from I&K Distributors. They were married for 68 wonderful years when Mary passed away in January 2010.

Dutch served his country proudly as a member of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. He was an Airplane & Engine Mechanic and worked on the B29 planes. Dutch was honorably discharged in December 1945 as a Sergeant with the 16th Bomb Group 17th Bomb Squadron.

Golfing was Dutch’s passion. When not out on the course he enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with his grandchildren. Dutch will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his two daughters, Karen (Michael) Ball, of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Linda (Gary) Bokerman, of Rapid City; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Donald Pfleger; and his sister-in-law, Emma (Walter) Pfleger.

Dutch was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents, Alfred and Augusta; and his brothers, Walter Pfleger and Carl Pfleger.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, at 4 p.m., at Kalkaska Memorial Assisted Living, with Pastor Jim Helman of Feast of Victory Lutheran Church officiating.
