---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Harold Rudolph Johne, age 85, was called home to heaven on Sept. 29, 2013, in Traverse City.

Harold was born on Jan. 16, 1928, in Racine, Wis., to Rudolph and Olga Johne. He graduated from Northwestern College in Watertown, Wis., and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, Wis. On Oct. 16, 1953, he married Barbara Ruth Schmeling. Harold served the Lord’s church as pastor, missionary, and seminary professor. Throughout his life he was passionate about living out and sharing God’s love for all. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, and grandfather; and a true friend to many.

Harold is survived by his sister, Elinor Nelson and husband Bill; children, Margaret Candler, Mary Schroeder and husband Marc, Peter Johne and wife Heather, Ruth Harimoto and husband Paul, Susy Robinson, Kathleen Milne and husband Brian, and Ramona Eversmann and husband Colin; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara; and also by grandson, Caleb Candler.

A memorial service will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1776 High Lake Rd., Traverse City, on Thursday, Oct. 3, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Jason Hacker officiating.

The family is asking that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Color of Joy Foundation, Inc., which provides “support for people with ALS and their caregivers to improve the quality of their lives.” The address is 47887 Michigan Ave., Suite 123, Canton, MI 48188.
