---- — SIMPSONVILLE, S.C. — Ernest “Ernie” Hill died Sept. 20 in Simpsonville, S.C., at the age of 82. He was born in Lansing, graduated from Sexton High School in 1949 and then attended Michigan State University.
Ernie was a “summer boy” in Traverse City, where he met his wife of 63 years, Joanna Curtiss. Together they owned Ketterman’s Department Store in Elk Rapids and Ernie Hill’s Tiny Town in Traverse City.
After a long career in media sales as sales manager at TV stations, he retired in Traverse City, where he and Joanna formed the Curtiss-Hill Publishing Company along with their son, Andy Hill, and together they started and published many local magazines.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Jo; his daughter, Maggie (Chuck) Rexford; son, Casey (Denise) Hill; son, Dan Hill; six grandchildren, Cory (Jennifer) Rexford, Matt (Whitney) Rexford, Molly (Bill) Woods, Katie (Joel) Sigmon, Lindsay (Ian) Ramjohn and Melissa Hill; along with 10 great-grandkids. He is also survived by his nephews and niece, David (Kathy) Curtiss, Jed (Debbra) Curtiss and Shelley (Paul) Scott.
He was preceded in death by his son, Andy Hill, and grandson, Kris Hill.
