TRAVERSE CITY — William John Flory, 87, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2013, at Rosegate Assisted Living.
William was born on April 7, 1925, in Grand Rapids, to the late Owen and Anna (Remiga) Flory. He married Betty Gyolas on Oct. 15, 1949.
William honorably served our country in the United States Army during World War II. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and D-Day, and was a POW. He was a machine gunner and proudly earned the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
William was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW and the POW.
After his time in service he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving William are his children, Craig (Judy) Flory, of Newburgh, N.Y., Renee (Paul) Willett, of Blue Eye, Mo., and Michele (Danial) Largent, of Traverse City; grandchildren, Brandon Flory, Andrew Largent and Amber Jean Largent; and a great-granddaughter, Julia Flory.
William was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty in 1996; and siblings, Elmer Flory, Irene Klumpp and Lucille Norburg.
Family memorial services will be held in the summer at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
