MANCELONA — John D. Pesek, age 89, passed away at his home in Mancelona on March 14, 2013. He was born on March 20, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Myron and Adele (Dieterich) Pesek.
John served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II. He married Harriet Powell on Jan. 28, 1945 and together they raised two wonderful children. John worked in sales all his life, including selling real estate after he and Harriet moved to northern Michigan and made their home on Starvation Lake.
John enjoyed snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, crossword puzzles, Shakespeare, classical music and was active in Habitat for Humanity, Rotary, Veterans’ groups, Commission on Aging among other groups.
John is survived by his two children, John D. Pesek, of Newark, Del. and Christine M. Wolf, of Coral Springs, Fla.; his two grandchildren, Betsy (Michael) O’Donnell, of New York City and Jonathan Wolf, of Nevada City, Calif.; and his great-grandson, Graydon O’Donnell.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Harriet, who passed away on February 7th of this year.
John and Christine will be holding a celebration of their parents lives together the first week of July at the Pesek home on Starvation Lake.
