ELBERTA — John Gerhard Hansen, 53, of Elberta, died Jan. 27, 2013, at Munson Medical Center. John was a man of many words and had a heart of gold.
He loved the town of Frankfort, where he was born and lived all his life. He showed his dedication by being an active member of the Frankfort Fire Department for nearly 30 years.
He enjoyed his free time and spent many days at the Eagles Club, where he met many close friends.
John loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, which he did well to support his family. John also enjoyed going out for dinner. On any given day he could be spotted at the Crystal Cafe or the Eagles fish fry on Friday nights before he would commence to the north end zone of Lockhart Field to watch his favorite football team - the Panthers.
He loved going on cruises, traveling and just spending time around northern Michigan, which he called "Gods Country." Over the past 10 months his time was taken up playing with his new grandson, Dierks. Nearly every day after his shift at Graceland Fruit, John would spend the evening spoiling Dierks. His love, friendship, joyous attitude and dedication to his hometown will be missed by many. John will always be remembered.
He is survived by son, John (Amy) Hansen and their son, Dierks Hansen; mother, Marcia Hansen; sister Vicki (Clyde) Joslin, brothers, Allen (Gayle), Larry Hansen and Jim (Brenda) Martin; several nieces, nephews and cousins who were dear to his heart; stepson, Jason Schultz; and grand-dog, Meatball.
