Jabe Bacon

TRAVERSE CITY — Jabe Bacon, longtime summer resident of Empire, passed away Jan. 2, 2013. He was 94.

Born in Ferndale Aug. 9, 1918, to Jabez and Alice Bacon, Jabe spent many summers camping on the beach in Empire. Thus began a lifelong affair with the area that has been handed down to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

On April 19, 1944, Jabe married Patricia Lapham, who preceded him in death. Together they raised five children.

Jabe loved many sports but especially enjoyed spending time golfing with his friends and family. He also enjoyed the Detroit Lions and had a great time watching the Tigers this past season.

Jabe is survived by his brother, Rennie (Marilyn) Bacon; his children, Rusty Bacon, Mike Bacon, Terry (Sandi) Bacon, Trish (Mark) Baker and Maggie Bacon; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is being planned for early summer in Empire.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan.

The family is being served by Stegenga Funeral Chapel, Belmont.
