James was a longtime resident of Suttons Bay and a dedicated member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood carving, golfing, playing the piano, painting and participating in various activities with his many close friends. He touched the lives of so many, both as a physician and friend.

In addition to his loving wife, Penny, James is survived by three daughters, Julia Hogan, Tracy (Jeff) Davis and Kelly (Ben) Gallagher; two sons, Dan (Eileen) Hogan and Tim (Annelie) Hogan; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Pat (Wanda) and Dennis (Barb) Hogan; and a sister-in-law, Pam (Bill) Armitage.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 28, from 4 to 8 p.m., with the rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m., also at St. Mary's. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Adult Christian Education Department, 403 St. Mary's Street, Lake Leelanau, MI 49653.

The whole family would like to give a big thank you to the entire team at Hospice of Michigan. They were phenomenal.
